Didn't want to answer my phone. Just having one of those days that I don't have very often, but hey I'm human so when I need that time, I take it. Well, at the light I was just looking into space and my eyes glanced at the bumper sticker on the vehicle in front of me..... Life Is Good, it said. For a second I couldn't think. Those three words meant more to me in those few seconds than they've ever meant my whole life. Of course I have heard, read and said those words before. They just meant something more to me on that day, that day that wasn't making sense at all. In some small way those few words turned my entire day around. LIFE IS GOOD! It doesn't matter what circumstance or situation placed me in a bad mood. In that moment, I had the choice to continue being mad of just accepting that Life really is good. Life itself is good. I'm not dead. I'm alive so, life is really good.

Sometimes, things may not always go as planned, but that allows me to be human. I plan way too much anyway and sometimes, I need to be reminded that I'm not in control of my life. As much as I plan, I need to leave more room for life because it happens...... Life Is Good!

You Think You're All That!!!!

Lately I’ve been having conversations with my close guy friends and all they talk about is how single, intelligent women think that we’re all that. Most recent conversation led me to writing this note. Speak your mind.

Yes, I am all that… You heard me right.. I don’t “think” I know. Before you go calling me uppity read the entire note and then if you have judgment then so be it, but hear me out. I am a child of the Most High God, I am fearfully and wonderfully made, I am a virtuous woman. I am your Esther, Mary and your Ruth all wrapped up in one. I don’t look to man to find my self worth. My identity is found in the Word so you see it’s not that I walk with my head held high like I’m better than you or with arrogance. I walk with my head held high because I know who my source is. You say I should be happy that you talked to me. Ha! You should be happy I even stopped and gave you the time. You say there are 10(men) of you to every 1(woman) of me and I say that means I have more to select from. You say you want a wife who cooks, cleans and have your babies. I say if that’s all you need then best get stepping.

Okay so here is the real deal. My single friends are successful, gorgeous, intelligent people, but it’s like day and night hearing why men and women are single. Starting with the men: I hear this more than I hear anything else… I want a wife that’s fine, long hair, (yellow bone) curvy or thin. She needs to be able to cook and clean (because I don’t want a wife who doesn’t know how to cook and keep our house clean) she needs to be successful. She can’t have no GED because we need to be a power couple.
This my issue with this statement; firstly, no where in there have any of my male friends ask for a woman of virtue, integrity, good morals and most importantly a woman that seeks first the Kingdom of God (Matt 6:33). It’s fine asking for all that, but beauty fades, breast sag, people age, dark circles under the eyes.. Just know that if you want a woman based on that ALONE your marriage will more than likely end in failure because you’ll be thinking about leaving her for the next good looking thing. Not to mention, you might end up with a cheater, a thief (gold digger) or just an awful woman. I’m not saying don’t look for that, but you’ll never be happy and like I tell everyone. Don’t dump a woman that has 80% of what you need to find the other 20% somewhere else because sooner or later you’ll be out searching again (Pastor Joel Osteen).

Now to the Women: Ladies, ladies, ladies (I’m included). We are so guilty of this. We are all looking for a 6’5 chocolate brotha, white teeth, dimples, bald head and won’t even look two seconds at a man who is not remotely close to these. I’m going to say it like TD Jakes says. That 6’5 chocolate brotha might be crazier that a tick on the back of a cockroach (I know I didn’t get it at first either, but it was funny). It’s cool to want all these things just like the men, but while you looking over the head of that guy that is 5’9 he’s looking for “something new” and there is nothing wrong with that, but if their reason is because we have an attitude then there is a problem. Just like men. We need to ask for a man who is the reflection of God’s heart for us. No hype! That’s not sexy to me. Can that man be a genuine provider? Be kind, loving, an exceptional husband and father? I always say that I would marry a garbage man and all of my friends joke and say yeah right because they could never see it, but my thing is…. If that man is ambitious and a go getter and with me behind him in his corner at all times, that job is only temporary. I don’t look at a person’s job or car or any other material thing to say yes he and I would be great. Furthermore, there will be nothing more powerful than that. These words will mean such much more. Behind every great man is an astonishing, incomparable woman. If you haven't already, you should read the book "Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man" by Steve Harvey.

Natural Hair is Fabulous

I finally decided to join the world of blogging because I receive a lot of emails and questions about products that I use in my hair and on my skin so I figured this was easier. Just brief history on my 2 year journey as a natural beauty. Before 2006 I couldn't miss a hair appointment. My hair had to be fly at all times. I never thought I would/could ever go natural. In 2006 I started searching for new meaning to life. I felt that I was really self absorbed and was looking for new direction. I prayed a lot and stayed in faith reminding God of all of his promises. In August of 2006 I was involved in a car accident and was reminded that no day is promised so I started living my life with/on purpose

I didn't do the transition like most girls do. I went from my long beautiful( so I thought) head of hair to no hair. I first got it cut in December of 2006, but tried to do a texturizer and it took all of my hair out. Needless to say I got braids and wore braids for about 2 months and then did the big chop again in February 07. I wore my mini fro for almost that entire first year. I got my hair twisted for the 1st time in Dec 07 and did braids and twists at the beginning of 2008. I stopped wearing braids is Spring of 08 and just wore my hair in twists for the rest of 2008.

As of Dec 28th , 2008 I have been wearing it in twist out. I trim my ends and do everything myself because I've found that most "natural" stylist are not really natural stylist. I have never had nor do I want my hair to be pressed. I like it just the way it is.

The products that I currently use are unrefined Shea butter mixed with essential oils from Whole Foods, I do use Organix hair shampoo and conditioner, but they are not 100% natural so I'm trying to find something else. I use extra virgin coconut oil and that's about it for me right now. I've used Carol's Daughter and Miss Jessies as well as over the counter products. I really like what I'm using now so I'll stick with it.

About my skin; I don't use really expensive products. I use mac cosmetics, oil of olay face wash and St Ives face cream and that's about it. I do drink about a gallon of water a day. Well maybe not a gallon a day, bt I drink a lot of water.
